Rameshwar Singh a Sidha Tantrik in the eyes of Arthur Avalon.

The Maharaja of Darbhanga , Rameshewar Singh ,was a fellow disciple of Sivacandra and a renowned tantrik practioner. He was described by the Marquis of Zetland as a notorious Sakta, patron of the temple to the Goddess at Kamakhya where the erotoic ritual was performed . Vasant Kumar Pal refer to him several times ; as sponsor of spectacular tantric puja performed by his guru; as someone who practiced sadhana in the crematoria of Bihar and Bengal alongwith Sivacandra and as sponsor of many of the saint publications . He was a founder and General President of the Sri Bharat Dharma Mahamandal, a neo- conservative Hindu organisation which nevertheless had universalist attitude and sought to make the scriptures available to all casts and to women. His sponsorship of the Tantrik Texts probably reflected this aim . Rameshwar Singh was a colourful character who had a reputation among his subject as a Sidha Tantrik.; he was credited with having changed the course of river through performing sadhana thus diverting a flood. He was called a rajjarshi , a king - rishi . He was relatively unusual in being a member of the princely class who was also a Brahmin , and took a leading role in the movement to present inter- caste marriage and in defence of brahmanical intrests generally. His Kingdom was really no more than a particular large estate but he was extremely wealthy.
The Agamanusandhana Samiti , Calcutta was publishing Company set up specially for the Tantrik Texts, though it may have owned copywright of the some other books as well. Its publicity leaflet, mentioned above reveals it to have had directly propaganda purpose , specifically aimed at the English
educated Indian public. Its President , the Maharaja of Darbhanga, seems to have been the main financial sponsor after Woodroffe's departure and was suceeded on his death in 1931,by his son who took over as President.
