It is to the peculiar culture of Mithila where since the time of Janaka kings delighted in being learned like priests and priests became kings, where kings and queens preferred to be scholars-- it is to that peculiar history which ' does not centre round valiant feats of arms, but round Courts engrossed in the luxurious enjoyment of literature and learning' ,Mithila still holding Courts where poetry and learning were alone honoured.( Journal of the Bihar and Orissa Research Society,VI ,258.)

Copy of the letter from H.E. the Viceroy to the Maharaja Lakshmiswara Singh of Darbhanga on 14th Februrary,1885

My Dear Maharaja,

Your term of office as an aditional member of Council being about to expire, and it is being very desirable that we should profit by your assistance in the further elaboration of the Bengal Tenancy Bill, i am anxious to induce you to permit me to re -nominate you to apost which you have filled with so much credit to yourself and so much advantage to the public service of your contry.
